The Network was founded in 1996 by David Ferguson for the purpose of connecting people worldwide who are interested in the lives and work of engineers and efficiency experts Frank Gilbreth and Lillian Moller Gilbreth. We are now on line to serve as a meeting place for exchanging ideas and announcing the latest information on the Gilbreths.

Very Sad News

Ernestine Gilbreth Carey
dies at age 98
on November 4, 2006

Ernestine Gilbreth Carey, who with her late brother, Frank B. Gilbreth, Jr., co-authored the incredibly popular books Cheaper by the Dozen and Belles on their Toes has died at the age of 98. These books made the Gilbreth family well-known and cherished to generations of readers and were also made into popular films.

Mrs. Carey was also very supportive of the Gilbreth Network and its efforts to continue the study of her parents' careers in scientific management. Upon learning of her death, David Ferguson, director of the Gilbreth Network, stated on Sunday, November 5, "I met [Ernestine Carey] in 1995 and she sowed the seed of the Gilbreth Network with me. [She was] always supportive and amazing in her knowledge and interest in both the Gilbreths and in young people just discovering their work."

Our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Carey's family.

Note:We will post links to Mrs. Carey's obituaries in major newspapers as we receive them. Many newspapers are carrying her obituary in today's newspaper (Tuesday, November 7, 2006).

We have created a memorial guestbook for you to sign if you have any thoughts about Ernestine Gilbreth Carey or messages of sympathy you would like to share.
